What to do while you are waiting for an appointment...

If you are in need of immediate assistance for an emergency, please call and ask to speak to a counselor Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. For urgent concerns after business hours or on the weekend, phone consultation services are available by calling:

We would like to offer you some suggestions for what to do while you are waiting for an appointment.


 

Stress and WellnessFor stress/symptom management

Online relaxation recordings:   Look under the tab “Exercises”. You would find various relaxation and meditation exercises that would facilitate stress reduction.

For students who have smart phones, there are various free applications for managing stress / symptoms on daily basis.

Biofeedback. Use our self-help lab to improve stress-related physical and emotional symptoms. After you come to a single orientation session, you will be free to use the lab anytime the Counseling and Wellness Center is open. No appointment is necessary for the orientation session.

Emotional fitness workshops.  Learn practical skills for coping with depression, grief, anxiety, anger, trauma and other powerful emotional experiences. Students can attend one or more of these workshops at any time on a drop in basis after an initial triage.  Wednesdays 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.


Anxiety reduction workshop.
Students struggling with stress and anxiety are invited to learn hands-on skills, such as relaxation, imagery, self-hypnosis, or mindfulness, to help reduce their stress and anxiety. No appointment is needed. Just join!


 

Groups

For a variety of concerns consider group therapy

Check out our group therapy options, specifically USO groups.  If you have questions about this modality in general, please read our FAQs.

If you are interested in group towards the end of the semester, we may need to schedule you to start group the following semester based on availability

Sleeping in the Swamp is packed with information and strategies to improve your sleep quality.

About Us

The staff of the CWC includes licensed psychologists, licensed mental health counselors, clinical social workers, psychiatrists, psychiatric fellows, psychiatric nurse practitioners, postdoctoral associates, psychology interns, counselor education  interns, and practicum counselors. All of our staff are generalists and see students presenting with a variety of issues.
