Groups | Summer 2015

Interested in joining a group? Schedule the triage appointment with the front desk. Your triage counselor, or existing counselor or psychiatrist, will then refer you to a group screening appointment to determine if you will be a good fit for the group. Group spots are limited so contact us quickly.

All groups meet at Radio Road location unless otherwise noted.

Themed Groups

Academic Confidence Mondays 1:00-3:00 pm

Develop effective study skills and stress management tools through discussions about performance anxiety, time management and procrastination.
Facilitator: Jamie Funderburk and Chu-Chun Fu (Summer A)

Coping with Medical Challenges Mondays 10:00-11:30 am

Promote coping with personal medical challenges through integration of mind-body healing from a psychological perspective and shared support from others.
Facilitators: Debbie Weiss and Beverly Brady (Summer C)

Mindful Movement Wednesdays 3:00-4:30 pm

Learn ways to manage stress and anxiety by pairing mindfulness meditation with gentle movement and relaxing body postures.
Facilitators: Michael Murphy and Jessalyn Klein (Summer A)

Recovery Support (Peabody Hall) Mondays 3:00-4:30 pm

Develop stress reduction and relapse prevention strategies, and gain strength from others in maintaining recovery. People in recovery from all addictions are welcome.
Facilitator: Joan Scully and Mel Lantz (Summer C)

Success Not Excess (Peabody Hall) Thursdays 10:30-12:00 pm

Participants discuss their use of alcohol and drugs in a non-judgmental group setting. Develop an understanding of drugs of abuse and effects, clarify values and identify warning signs for developing an addiction. Facilitators: Joan Scully and Kristen Shader (Summer C)

Groups for Specific Populations

Invincible Black Women Tuesdays 3:00-4:30 pm

Black women are empowered in discussing concerns facing them today and in gaining rituals, self care, and connectedness for conquering negative patterns.
Facilitator: Brandi Pritchett-Johnson and Chu-Chun Fu (Summer C – starts in June 2nd) 

LGBTQ Empowerment Mondays 11:00-12:30 pm

Explore issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity, and gain support in integrating your identity with other areas of your life.
Facilitator: Carlos Hernandez and Jessalyn Klein (Summer A)

Trans Masculine Empowerment (Peabody Hall) Fridays 11:00-12:30 pm

Explore the challenges and joys of integrating one’s gender identity and expression. Participants process their unique journey through self-awareness and exploration leading towards a greater sense of self-acceptance.

Graduate Students

Graduate Student Women's Support Mondays 11:00-12:30 pm

During the unique experience of graduate school, receive support to survive and flourish, and have a place to discusses your stresses and joys.

Understanding Self and Others Graduate Students Multiple Times

Connect with other graduate students to release feelings about distressing experiences, develop insights about interpersonal patterns through support and feedback, and create connections and trust in group.

Peer Support Groups

Intentional Peer Support Tuesdays | 3:00-4:30 pm

Participants work together to develop awareness of personal and relational patterns; to view life experience from many angles; to create new ways of seeing, thinking and doing.

Facilitators: Sara Nash and Jim Probert (Peabody Hall)

Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) Thursdays | 2:45-4:45 pm

Participants develop personal plans for maintaining wellness and for addressing internal and external signals of increasing distress. Group emphasizes hope, personal responsibility, education, self-advocacy and support.
