Mindfulness
What is mindfulness? Simply put, it is paying attention to what is happening in the present, without judging what we see or ourselves. Mindfulness allows us to respond more consciously to what happens in our lives rather than react automatically with old habits. We start to smell, touch, hear, and taste more vividly and really pay attention to what we feel. We learn to observe our thoughts without being caught up in them and to be more kind to ourselves in the process. In mindfulness meditation we follow a set of simple instructions to practice being present. Anyone can do this. Students who have learned and practiced mindfulness meditation have told us that not only do they feel less anxious, have fewer headaches, sleep better, get less angry or worried, but they feel more alive.
