Getting Help: Consultation/Intervention Decision Tree

The Troubled Student

A student who is troubled, confused, very sad, highly anxious, irritable, lacks in motivation and/or concentration, demonstrating bizarre behavior or thinking about suicide.

For a troubled student follow these steps:

  1. Consultation Resources
    Questions about emotional and behavioral issues and getting help, call:

    After Office Hours call Alachua County Crisis Center: (352) 264-6789
  2. And/ Or
    Administrative/Judicial procedural concerns, call:
    Dean of Students Office: (352) 392-1261
    After Office Hours call Emergency Dean on Call: (352) 392-1111
  3. And/ Or
    Academic Status, call:
    Associate Dean for Student Affairs - College Department Chair or Program Coordinator

A Disruptive Student

A student whose conduct is disruptive or dangerous, verbal or physical threats, active threats of suicide and resisting help

For a disruptive student follow these steps:

  1. Consultation/Intervention Resources
    Rule out the possibility of harm to self or others
    If physical safety of student or others is immediate concern
    If Student Is On Campus call University Police Department: (352) 392-1111
    If Student Is Off Campus call Alachua County Sheriff or Gainesville Police: 911
  2. Then
    Administrative/Judicial procedural concerns, call:
    Dean of Students Office: (352) 392-1261
    After Office Hours call Emergency Dean on Call: (352) 392-1111
  3. And/ Or
    Consultation with or referral to campus emergency counseling or health resources, call:
    CWC (352) 392-1575
    For a student who is off campus at the time call Alachua County Crisis Center: (352) 264-6789

About Us

The staff of the CWC includes licensed psychologists, licensed mental health counselors, clinical social workers, psychiatrists, psychiatric fellows, psychiatric nurse practitioners, postdoctoral associates, psychology interns, counselor education  interns, and practicum counselors. All of our staff are generalists and see students presenting with a variety of issues.
