Gator Bliss IpodsGator Bliss Ipods are loaded with the following programs and can be used in the massage recliner or in the lobby by the fountain if you prefer. You can find each of these by going to the Ipod home screen, tapping on ‘music’ on the bottom left, then choose ‘genres’, and finally choose topic area.
Bi-naural Beats or binaural tones are auditory processing artifacts, or apparent sounds, the perception of which arises in the brain following specific physical stimuli. The brain produces a phenomenon resulting in low-frequency pulsations in the amplitude and sound localization of a perceived sound when two tones at slightly different frequencies are presented separately, one to each of a subject's ears, using stereo headphones. A beating tone will be perceived, as if the two tones mixed naturally, out of the brain. The frequency of the tones must be below about 1,000 to 1,500 hertz for the beating to be heard. The difference between the two frequencies must be small (below about 30 Hz) for the effect to occur; otherwise, the two tones will be heard separately and no beat will be perceived. Binaural beats reportedly influence the brain in subtle ways through the entrainment of brainwaves and have been claimed to reduce anxiety and provide other health benefits such as control over pain. Guided Imagery is a gentle but powerful technique that focuses and directs the imagination. It can be just as simple as an athlete's 10-second reverie, just before leaping off the diving board, imagining how a perfect dive feels when slicing through the water. Or it can be as complex as imagining the busy, focused buzz of thousands of loyal immune cells, scooting out of the thymus gland on a search and destroy mission to wipe out unsuspecting cancer cells. Although it has been called "visualization" and "mental imagery", these terms are misleading. Guided imagery involves far more than just the visual sense and this is a good thing, given the fact that only about 55% of the population is strongly wired visually. Instead, imagery involves all of the senses, and almost anyone can do this. Neither is it strictly a "mental" activity it involves the whole body, the emotions and all the senses, and it is precisely this body-based focus that makes for its powerful impact. When properly constructed, imagery has the built-in capacity to deliver multiple layers of complex, encoded messages by way of simple symbols and metaphors. You could say it acts like a depth charge dropped beneath the surface of the "bodymind", where it can reverberate again and again. The CWC offers guided imagery in the following categories:
- Ease Pain
- Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain
- General Wellness
- Irritable Bowel
- Relief from stress/anxiety
- Improve Self-confidence and Reach Peak Performance
Heart Rate Variability Music
Heart rate variability refers to the changes in beat to beat timing of the heart. These changes can (and should) appear in a rhythmical pattern which is known as coherence. High HRV and Coherence can be trained AND are linked with improvements in performance and many different psychological and medical conditions. Likewise, low HRV predicts or identifies those who experience or will experience physical or emotional problems. CWC users can attend the Advanced Orientation session to learn to use the emWave Desktop, or can sign out an emWave PSR to practice with in the lab area. This music has been developed to increase coherence/HRV and can be used alone or with the computer programs.
Meditation Music
Meditation refers to any of a family of practices in which the practitioner trains his or her mind or self-induces a mode of consciousness in order to realize some benefit. You can learn a specific type of meditation here at the CWC by joining one of our Taming the Anxious Mind 8 week groups.
The Ipod includes three soundtracks to enjoy while meditating or using the massage chair.

Self-Hypnosis and Sub-liminal persuasion
Self-Hypnosis is a naturally occurring state of mind which can be defined as a heightened state of focused concentration (trance), with the willingness to follow instructions (suggestibility). Subliminal stimuli are any sensory stimuli below an individual's absolute threshold for conscious perception. Visual stimuli may be quickly flashed before an individual may process them, or flashed and then masked, thereby interrupting the processing. Audio stimuli may be played below audible volumes, similarly masked by other stimuli, or recorded backwards in a process called back masking. Introduced in 1897, the concept became controversial as "subliminal messages" in 1957 when marketing practitioners claimed its potential use in persuasion. Subsequent scientific research, however, has been unable to replicate most of these marketing claims beyond a mere placebo effect.
( If you have suffered significant past trauma of any kind DO NOT undertake self hypnosis without guidance from one of our therapists.)
